Oh NO!!!! I Am Out Of.......

If you are like me, all to often, you are in the middle of cooking and suddenly realize you are missing one (or two) ingredients. To help you out, here is a list of substitutions. Let me know if you have any I have missed and I will add them to the list.



Apple Cider Vinegar (1/4 cup)


¼ White Vinegar

Balsamic Vinegar (1 Tablespoon)


1TB Sherry Vinegar or 1 TB Apple Cider Vinegar

Beer (1 cup)


1 Cup Beef Broth

Or

1 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar

Baking Powder (1 tsp)


¼ tsp Baking Soda + ½ tsp Cream of Tarter

Or

¼ tsp + ½ cup Buttermilk (decrease liquid in recipe by ½ cup)

Barbecue Sauce (1 cup)


1 cup Ketchup + ½-1 tsp liquid smoke

Bread Crumbs (1 cup)


1 cup crackers

Or

1 cup ground oats

Or

Toast Bread and leave for a few minutes in the toaster when done and make your own

Brown Sugar (1 cup)


1 cup White Sugar + 2 Tbsp Molasses

Butter


1 cup of Margarine

Or

1 cup Shortening

Or

7/8 cup of Vegetable Oil

Buttermilk (1 cup)


1 cup Yogurt

Or

1 Tbsp Lemon Juice or Vinegar + milk to make 1 cup

Corn Syrup (1 cup)


1 cup Honey

Or

1 cup Sugar + ¼ liquid (use liquid called for in recipe)

Cream Cheese (1 cup)


1 cup Ricotta

Or

1 cup Low-Fat Cottage Cheese beaten until smooth

Heavy Cream (not for whipping)


2/3 cup Whole Milk + 1/3 cup melted Butter

Cream of Tarter (1 tsp)


2 Tbsp Lemon Juice

Or

Tbsp Vinegar

Herbs, Dried (1 tsp)


1 Tbsp Fresh Herb

Honey (1 cup)


1 ¼ cup Sugar + ¼ cup of liquid (use liquid called for in recipe)

Lemon Juice (1 Tbsp)


1 Tbsp White Vinegar

Mayonnaise (1 cup)


1 cup Sour Cream

Or

1 cup Yogurt

Mustard (1 Tbsp)


1 Tbsp Dry Mustard + 1 tsp Water + 1 tsp Vinegar + 1 tsp Sugar

Oil (1 cup)


1 cup Melted Butter

Or

1 cup Margarine

Or

1 cup Shortening

Shortening (1 cup)


1 cup Butter

Or

1 cup Margarine

White Vinegar (1/4 cup)


¼ cup Apple Cider Vinegar

Or
